Helpful Enclosure Hints

Buckeye Shapeform

It is hard to plan for every situation out there; in fact it’s close to impossible! Case housings and enclosures need to withstand a lot of punishment under a number of variable conditions. Most component manufacturers even offer their own standard product ratings with some suggested housing unit durability limits for simple and rugged enclosures. Unfortunately, these specifications sometimes end up getting lost in the engineering and designing portion of enclosure manufacturing.

We will briefly discuss a few of the top design factors that can make or break your unit case or housing specific needs.

1. External housing material – Metal or Plastic

What are your expected durability requirements? Will the enclosure be stationary or attached to a moving vehicle? How much vibration will the components have internally? What type of impact do you expect the case to withstand? How often will these impacts occur?

2. Shielding and Protection

Wireless compatibility is almost considered a necessity in today’s electronic industry. Wifi and other IR signals may have a damaging effect on components or may result in bodily harm if not shielded properly. Metal detectors can effect pacemaker operations; x-ray and gamma rays can endanger a patient’s life.

At Buckeye Shapeform, we have the industry expertise; 3D CAD design tools and a talented engineering team to help create a modified enclosure solution that meet all of your requirements at a fraction of the cost of other custom enclosures.
